Tlos

Kiosk 47: Tlos Lycian ruins. Contains chairs, water container, ticket book and cash register.

As mentioned in the Rough Guide to Turkey, this kiosk stands guard at the foot of an ancient hilltop settlement and one of the most important religious centres of the Lycian region, dating back to 2,000 BCE.

But this isn't the first time a Turk has stamped his mark on this city of the dead hewn from the living rock. In place of the acropolis is an Ottoman fort built to house Kanli Ali, who destroyed much of the ancient site. Bloody Ali indeed.
