UK Consulate, Meşrutiyet Caddesi
UK Consulate, Meşrutiyet Caddesi. This shabby white
duplex stands in by a side gate to Pera House, the former British Embassy
to the Ottoman court now consulate. The building was designed and built in
1801 by James Smith with some involvement by Charles Barry, architect of the
Palace of Westminster. In 2000, it was destroyed by fire then restored. In
2003, it was blown up an Al Qaeda affiliate, killing 16 people including the
consul general.
UPDATE: 25 May, 2014. In the grounds can be found a
more stout prefab type.
