Amerikan Pazar, Tophane

Amerikan Pazar, Tophane. Contains the relevant bureaucratic equipment and Customs documents to process incoming and outgoing ships docking at the commercial port of Karaköy.

This area is known as the American Bazaar, where one could buy black market and counterfeit goods during the time when Turkey's economy was closed. Now it is where young couples come to smoke nargile (water pipes) and pay through the nose for the privilege. Oh how times have changed. 

(This correspondent once passed through these gates to go aboard one of Her Majesty's Royal Navy ships for a cocktail reception. I don't particularly remember passing through them going in the opposite direction.)
