This sad, graffiti- and grime-covered kiosk standing guard at the rear entrance to the Russian Consulate, which dates to Tsarist times, has seen better days. Long gone are the espionage and intrigue, attaches and their cases, and hot and cold running war.

The lowly guard that once occupied this hut has since been replaced by an automatic barrier, which is probably more effective at keeping enemy spies out and defectors in.
